Organizations and roles

Who can see and change what, inviting people, and belonging to several organizations.

Monitors, channels and everything else belong to an organization. You start with one of your own, and can create more, or be invited into someone else's; switch between them from the menu at the top.

Roles #

Each member has one role. Each role can do everything the one above it in this table can, and more:

RoleCan
ViewerSee every monitor, channel, profile and history; export data.
MemberAlso snooze monitors.
AdminAlso add, change and delete monitors, checks, channels, profiles, value rules, maintenance windows, agents, API tokens and the status page; see keys and signing secrets; invite people, and change or remove anyone who isn't an owner.
OwnerAlso make and remove owners, rename the organization, and delete it.

A viewer who tries to change something, by any route, is refused.

Inviting people #

On Organization, enter an email address, choose a role and Send invitation. The invitation works once, for 7 days, and only for someone signed in with that address: anyone else who opens it is told it's for someone else. An organization can send 20 invitations a day, and any one address can be invited 3 times a day across all organizations.

Removing someone takes effect at once: their next click lands in an organization of their own.

Owners #

An organization always has at least one owner. To hand over, make someone else an owner, and then step down or leave. The last owner can't leave.

Leaving and deleting #

Anyone but the last owner can leave an organization from its page. An owner can delete it, after typing its name: its monitors, channels and history go with it, at once. See Your data.
